Three people from Santa Cruz who worked or still work at the Valero convenience store chain are seeking as much as $100 million dollars in lost wages and damages in what they hope will become a class-action lawsuit. According to the plaintiffs attorney, the chain expects its workers to be on call 24/7, but [they] are only paid for a fraction of the time they spend working. The chain does not provide its employees with meal breaks or pay them overtime for or mandatory off-the-clock work or on-call time.
