The Land Trust of Santa Cruz County acquired 440 acres of freshwater wetland near Watsonville, which combine marshes and farmland. The area, which was once slated for development, is important to the region’s hydrology and home to several species of rare birds, fish, and amphibians. The trust plans to continue leasing part of the land to local strawberry growers, and to use the revenues restore other parts of the wetlands. Read More at the Santa Cruz Sentinel.
