Art Replaces Graffiti on Swift Street

The Aliberti Construction building on Swift Street has long been a popular target for Keith Haring wannabes devoted to spray-painting their way into the art world. Thanks to the efforts of Councilmember Lynn Robinson, the 20-by-130-foot wall is now a genuine art installation, featuring a mural by local artist Marvin Plummer.
Plummer, who specializes in charcoal painting, never did a mural before tackling this project for the City Arts program. The painting, which took 25 days to complete, depicts a wave crashing into Lighthouse Point. The work cost the city $16,000, with $12,000 coming from the Santa Cruz Redevelopment Agency and the remainder from local businesses and residents. I could do better, and for a half of money, and in colours. Something of a stretched version of my “I Can See Russia From My House” with lots of other booze and zakuska:

There’s more stuff for nice, graffitti-repellant mural art at my fineoils.blogspot.com. Anyone would help an old starving Russian-Capitolan artist to get similar commissions?
