Some 200-300 people gathered in San Lorenzo Park this Saturday for the annual WAMMfest. It was the first time the festival was held under the city’s stringent new anti-smoking legislation, and due to a technical glitch, the organizers failed to get permission to set up a tent on park grounds for smokers. Nevertheless, police spent more time handing out no-smoking fliers than citations, and by the end of the event only three tickets were handed outone of them for alcohol consumption. “Overall I think it was a success for the organizers,” said Santa Cruz PD Lieutenant Rick Martinez.
