Sunday, Oct. 11 is Welcome Back Monarchs Day at Natural Bridges.
The skies above Santa Cruz will soon be speckled in orange and black as the monarch butterfly begins migrating southward and westward for the winter. Lepidopterists and fall color enthusiasts throughout the county will be converging on Natural Bridges State Beach this weekend to take in the clouds of butterflies in all their glory. The park’s Monarch beach is the only monarch preserve in California, so to celebrate the return of its favorite fall denizens, the park will be hosting its 23rd annual Welcome Back Monarchs Day this coming Sunday. From then until February, the park will also offer special guided tours every weekend to give visitors a chance to see and be inspired by the butterflies up-close.
