More cops, streetlights and security cameras are on tap in Santa Cruz following a rash of violence that saw a blatantly public shooting at Pacific and Laurel streets on Wednesday night. Police say two men, ages 24 and 32, sustained non-life-threatening injuries after a drug deal went bad. One victim suffered four gunshot wounds; the other, one.
Santa Cruz city councilmembers cited as possible measures increased patrols, better lighting and more security cameras throughout downtown, as well as beefed-up gang prevention efforts. They’ll reportedly finalize at least an initial plan to begin combatting the violence next week. Read more at the Santa Cruz Sentinel.
