On Wednesday, the Academic Senate of UCSC took a stand again the budgetary cuts imposed throughout the UC system. Calling further cuts “immoral,” Professor Christopher Connery lashed out against the 4 percent pay to the salaries of the lowest paid workers. The Senate also voted to condemn a proposed 32 percent tuition hike, to be voted on by the UC Board of Regents this November. UCSC has already seen its budget slashed by $50 million over the past two years, and the faculty—and students—agree that further cuts and tuition hikes are untenable.
